Kenya
A quintessential African safari
Accommodation in Kenya ranges from luxury lodges and stately colonial homes to hotels and mobile eco-safari lodges along with everything in-between. The demand for a variety of options makes Kenya the perfect safari destination for every traveller.
Second in popularity for visitors after the legendary Masai Mara, is Amboseli National Park that offers not only spectacular game viewing but also the best “postcard perfect” views of the iconic Mount Kilimanjaro. Expect to see many elephants silhouette against the views. The Samburu’s Reserve is also a destination that will appeal as much to the safari newbie as it will to the veteran – it is a big-cat haven and boasts its own unique Big 5 list hconsisting of Grevy’s zebra, the long-necked gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, besia oryx and Somali ostrich.
Of course, no trip to Kenya would be complete without a stop-over in the vibrant urban capital of Nairobi and Lake Nakuru famous world over for its lesser flamingos. Take in the sights, sounds and smells and admire the pink blanket that is sure to leave you speechless as you gaze upon this unique sight. Nakuru is a great place to see Cape buffalo and both the black and white rhino who have been introduced back into the park.
Along with all it offers in terms of wildlife, accommodation and incredible experiences, Kenya is popular for offering something a little more: stunning beaches. Lamu Island just off the north coast is Kenya’s oldest settlement and is surrounded by rich marine life, warm turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. Malindi and Watamu are small fishing towns along Kenya’s south coast that offer snorkelling and beautiful beaches for visitors to enjoy the African sunshine.
